Dear Friends, 903/625-0328
Our interest in missions began small but grew into a passion – and eventually into what we feel is a calling – to go and be a part of the effort at the Hillcrest School in Jos, Nigeria. We have always prayed for and supported missionaries but never thought God would have this kind of adventure in mind for us!
As associate pastor at Fellowship Bible Church in Jacksonville, Texas, Jason led a ministry team to Jos, Nigeria in July 2005. Coming away deeply impressed, he and Cindy went back in January 2006. After a missions conference in July 2006 the vision began to clarify, specific positions were opening up on the field and the initial steps were taken to associate with the long-respected missions agency SIM (Serving In Mission) based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
SIM has been helping missionaries serve God in foreign lands since 1893 and provides administrative and logistical support for more than 1,800 missionaries in more than 40 countries. Coming from a non-denominational church, SIM serves more or less as a “mission board” for us and less than 10% of applicants ultimately receive final approval for foreign service. In November 2006, we were pleased to accept official appointment by SIM to serve in Nigeria for an initial two-year term.
Jason – who traveled to Jos for a third time in January 2007 – will serve as pastor to more than 120 missionary families and chaplain for the Hillcrest student body (made up of mostly missionary children) and staff. Also, he will serve as the head of the Bible department at the school. Cindy will finish this school year at All Saints Episcopal School in Tyler, Texas and will serve as a teacher, and possibly in administration, curriculum writing and staff development at Hillcrest.
We are asking like-minded people – believers from all kinds of churches – to consider being part of our prayer support and financial support teams. As you look over the enclosed brochure, ask yourself where you might fit in. Can you be one of our regular prayer partners? Can you help financially? Whether it’s a one-time gift or a monthly pledge, we will bless you and appreciate you for whatever God lays on your heart.
We are available and interested in coming to speak to your Church, Sunday School class, Small Group, Bible Study, Christian School or Civic Organization. Wherever there is interest in what God is doing overseas, we want to be there to meet with you. If time or distance is a factor, let us send you more information including a brief DVD presentation from us personally.
We are so excited to see what God has in store for us over these next few months; we hope to leave in early July and are confident that all our needs will be met in time for us to go. Prayerfully consider being a part of our team and allowing us the privilege of taking you with us to Nigeria!
